Dear Graham: On Your 6th Birthday

graham sixDear Graham,

Happy, Happy, Birthday! Six years… Wow. I can’t believe we’re here, already! I’ve never met a boy, I’ve never met a person, more generous than you.  You’ll take the shirt off your back for someone who needs it.  You share your candy bar with anyone that asks.  You let your little brother play with your birthday Legos.  It makes me cringe to see him destroy your carefully constructed designs, but it doesn’t phase you.  You’re a Lego Master Builder.
graham six 3You make me feel loved everyday.  I get showered with kisses, serenaded with songs, and bedtime snuggles.  I am a very lucky momma.  You are a very special son.
graham six 2This year has been a big one for you.  We’ve sent you off into the world (or so kindergarten seems), and you’ve greeted it with open arms.  I know you’ve worked your way into your teachers hearts.  And, you’ve made so many great friends.  I love hearing how you played “puppies” on the playground with the girls and how you and your buddies engage in Spy and Secret Agent activities at school.
graham six 4Your imagination runs wild.  You install “communication modules” in your bedroom to chat with Yoda, you “special order” R2D2’s delivered to the backyard (this had to be done at 10:30 pm, you told me, because there are some things you can only do late at night), and you are training with the Padawans to become a Jedi Master.  I’m still trying to figure out what all of this Star Wars talk is, but I’m sure I’ll have it down pat soon.  Just as soon as you discover your next passion…
graham six 5I’ve learned so much as your mother, but mostly I’ve learned that my heart has more capacity than I ever thought possible.  So much capacity, in fact, that we are welcoming another brother for you this summer.  I know you are going to be such a great role model, helper and support system for your brothers and our family, and I am just so darn grateful for you.  YOU are my sunshine.

I love you to the moon and back infinity times,

Momma
