When you think of ethnic cuisines, I’m sure a lot of you adore a spiced up Indian curry. I mean, YUM, right? It’s one of the foods I crave the most. I’ll never turn down an opportunity for a tikka masala or biryani either! But then, I also love the refinement of French cuisine. Especially, when it comes to deserts. The French sure do know their way around a pastry. What I don’t ever think about is the two cuisines or cultures, for that matter, coming together. Which is exactly what happens in the newest Disney release, The Hundred-Foot Journey out in theaters August 8th.
About the movie (which is right up my foodie-alley): In “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin-starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren) gets wind of it…

Now, because I’m an equal opportunity foodie, I just couldn’t pick one of the amazing dishes created to share with y’all! So, I’m sharing two. Let me leave you with this – a fabulous Channa Masala Hummus from Aarti Sequeira (I totally rooted for her on Next Food Network Star!) and an Orange-Chocolate Almond-Nougat Champagne Trifle by Ryan Scott. Bon Appetit! Or as they say in Hindi (so Google says), kripyā bhojan kā ānnaṅd lijīyai…

This looks quick and easy, but a fun way to spice up a typical appetizer!
