As our glory days of summer come to a screeching halt, it’s time. Time to embrace the inevitable.   Unpack those beach bags. Start getting the kids back to bed at a decent hour. Ready the troops. It’s not just school. It’s a full-fledged battle, and this momma is getting ready to win. Ok, I kid. Kind of.

There are a few things that I’m doing to help ease my family’s transition during the back-to-school season.

First – organized clothes. With three boys, organizing clothes can be quite the task, but it’ll make life so much easier when their drawers are filled with clothes that actually fit. All clothes that are between sizes for my boys get put into bins and labeled by size and season. In their closets, I have a hanging organizer for clothes for each day. On Sundays, after laundry is done for the week, each boy’s organizer gets filled with their clothes for the week. Makes having them dress themselves in the morning a breeze.

Second – premade snacks.  Sometimes my boys bring lunch, sometimes they buy, but they always need a snack. Instead of trying to come up with something each morning, I spend just a little bit of time on one afternoon and set up a mix & match snack bar.  I create a variety of snack mixes and fill up Ziploc® brand Snack bags with Easy Open tabs.

Love these things. They are perfect for little hands, and they reduce the likelihood of total meltdown when their snack gets spilled on the floor! No one wants to see that!

I generally make about 90 snacks, and it takes all of 30 minutes. Win!

Third – premade breakfast. Can you tell I struggle with the early morning start time? Why oh why must elementary school kids get on a bus at 6:45 am? Fo’ real! Anywho, breakfasts are rough.  So to help ease the pain, I’ve been making several batches of my kids’ favorite breakfast popsicles! A combo of yogurt and cereal, frozen into a grab-and-go breakfast. We can dart out the door with these guys in hand, and I know they’ll have something in their bellies to get them through to lunch!
