There’s nothing a new mom needs more in the world than a little love and sleep.  Trust me, I know.  I’ve been there three times.  While a casserole from friends and family is always appreciated, I also really loved getting recommended must-haves from fellow moms.  No one knows more than a mom who’s just been there what you need!

I have a friend that’s having a baby soon, and I thought I’d gift her some of my favorite new mom supplies.  It’s a simple care package that I think will go along way to soothing nerves, fueling the rough moments and getting precious sleep.

Here’s my New Mom Care Package:

1: SNICKERS®.  Ain’t nothing worse than a hangry (hungry + angry) mom.  And between the energy spent in labor and the hours spent nursing, there’s plenty of occasion for both hungry and angry.  My solution? SNICKERS®.

Packed with roasted peanuts, nougat, caramel and milk chocolate, a SNICKERS® bar will go a long way to keeping a new mom fueled for all the tasks at hand.  I always kept one in my bed-side table for when the hunger pangs struck in the middle of the night.

You can pick up SNICKERS® at the checkout at Walmart.

2: DIY Calming Oil.  A friend gifted me this when I had James, and I’ve made a few more batches as I love it so.  I used it whenever I felt particularly stressed.  Combine 30 drops of Lavendar Essential Oil, 20 drops of Bergamot Essential Oil, 10 Drops of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, and one teaspoon of sweet almond oil.  Mix all ingredients in a 15 ml roll-on bottle.

3: Caffeine Free Chamomile Tea: Keeps mom hydrated and is soothing at the same time.  The perfect way to set the mood for night-time in hopes of getting some (any) sleep!

4: Pacifiers:  I can’t tell you how much pacifiers saved my life as a new mom.  I never set out to have a “pacifier” baby, but sometimes they just come out that way!  Help a new momma out and supply her with a few different types of pacies in hopes that they might help her (and baby) find some peace.

5:  A sleeping mask: Best invention ever.  Block out the monitor lights or night lights and help train your body to prepare for sleepy time by using a sleep mask!  Totally changed my sleep habits as a new mom and helped me overcome bouts of insomnia after middle-of-the-night feedings.

6: Intensive Hand Cream: I’d never suffered from severely dry skin… not until I started nursing.  My hands were cracked and dry, I suppose from nursing, but also all of the hand washing.  I love a good hand cream, and I’m sure any new mom would appreciate receiving some in a care package.

What’d I miss?  What would you appreciate in a New Mom Care Package?

Oh, and want to do something fun?  Take the SNICKERS® quiz to see who they are when they are hungry.

Apparently, I’m a Princess!  Don’t tell the hubs! 🙂
