Good KonMari Karma with Donations for Foster Kids

Earn some good KonMari Karma with Donations for Mattress Firm Foster Kids.  These new and like new clothes may no longer "spark joy" for you in the closet, but they'll surely delight foster kids and their families who so desperately need them.  And donating may just bring back some of that joy, too. This is a sponsored post on behalf of Mattress Firm and the Mom It Forward Blogger Network. All opinions, as always, are my own.

The KonMari initiative is still running strong in my house. For those of you unfamiliar, it’s the process of paring down what we own to the items that bring joy. This has meant that my closet is filled with clothes that I feel good in, my pantry is stocked (but just with the things I actually want to cook with), and that I have tons and tons of things to donate, consign an trash.

KonMari and Hefty need to partner up. There’s a marketing opportunity if ever there was one.

I’ve been pretty good about sorting out clothes and items for women’s and kids consignment sales this season. Unfortunately, I still have a few wardrobes/drawers to attack and consignment season is over. (Alas!)

I may hold on to a few items for fall and spring of next year, but if I’m to be honest – I just want this stuff OUT. When in KonMari mode, nothing feels quite as good as seeing bags of stuff leave the house.

When Mattress Firm reached out to me to share that they are hosting a clothing drive for their 2016 Mattress Firm Foster Kids initiative, I knew what I was going to do with some of those bags!

There are nearly a half a million foster kids in the US. Oftentimes, foster children arrive to their foster homes with only the clothes on their back. With your help, Mattress Firm wants to bring the community together to donate items during their six annual drives that will help make the transition to a new home or school a bit easier.

What can you bring? Any new or gently used children’s clothes! I’m embarrassed to say, we had so many items with tags still on in my boys’ closets. Whether they were clothes that they never fit in right, I just misplaced until it was too late, or it just wasn’t my taste… I was able to fill up a large tote with new shoes, tops, jackets and pajamas.

To make a donation, drop by any participating Mattress Firm with your clothing items. The donation drive runs through June 26th. But, if you get there by May 22nd, you can participate in the Kids Heroes Contest. Simply snap a pic of you and your kids bringing in your donation to Mattress Firm and submit it along with a caption on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #Donate4FosterKids or online at: www.MattressFirm.com/KidHeroes. Do so by May 22, 2016, and the winner (determined by votes during the week of May 23-29), will receive a $500 Toys R Us gift card and a $5,000 donation to the local Mattress Firm Foster Kids nonprofit Partner of the winner’s choice.

It’s a win-win for my KonMari soul.

I will be sure to drop off some clothes at our local Mattress Firm. What a great idea! I use consignment shops first then a no-kill pet shelter store for my donations. Sometimes, I even leave items in my daughter’s apartment lobby I think someone might need or enjoy. It feels good to donate and get those items to someone who will actually use them. Thanks for the info!
