Create lasting memories this summer with these summer family movies paired with easy and themed dinner and snacks!
One of my earlier childhood memories is one of our first family movie nights. We had just purchased a VHS player (I distinctly remember the great debate at point of purchase – Beta or VHS???), we rented Alice in Wonderland, and my mom made pistachio pudding. It wasn’t just the new tape player, the vibrant movie, or the slightly odd green pudding that makes this memory stick, however. I think it was that the whole family was excited to share the night together.
Now that I’m the mom, I try and make sure that I create the same spirit of excitement and family that will stick with my kids decades later. And, truth be told, I’m not about to reinvent the wheel either.
Family + Food + Friday Night Movies = Happy Memories!
It’s easy-peasy, really. In my house, our family movie night focuses on what’s available on VUDU. Why? Because the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan featuring Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data not only includes 10GB of 4G LTE data, but also a free movie on VUDU (new release rental $7 value) every month per line for $49.88.
I’ve been using my Samsung Galaxy phone (now only $129 on Rollback from $149) with the Walmart Family Mobile plan as an on-the-go mobile solution for when my oldest son “needs” a phone. The Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan is perfect for his use. Not only can he phone home as needed, but he can play his games while waiting for me and his brothers during swim lessons!
*All prices for phones and plans included in this post are accurate as of the date of posting; however, these prices are subject to change. Please refer to http://cbi.as/3edbv or your local Walmart for current pricing.
Now, with a free VUDU movie every month for every line, we’re getting our Friday Family Movie Nights all planned out. Want a sneak peek at the lineup?
Here are our Top 5 Summer Family Movies plus menus for the next several weeks. These are all super simple “recipes” paired with movies available on VUDU (which we watch on our ROKU)- the perfect family movie night whether at home or at the beach this summer!
1) Finding Nemo
In anticipation of the soon to be released “Finding Dory,” I thought I’d revisit this classic(?). It doesn’t seem old enough to be a classic, but then I’m probably just dating myself. For the first family flick in my summer movie night series, and for all of them really, the food is fun and “themed” but totally doable, most with items you probably already have in the pantry or can get at Walmart.
The menu (no sea creatures were harmed in the creation of these food items!):
{Sea} Shells with Tomato Sauce
Blue Berry Jello with Candy Fish
Want some other fun themes? Here you go!
2) Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Or was it the food? Kid will love Chicken Nugget Sliders, Baby Carrots and Mini Wafer Ice Cream Cookies.
3) The Good Dinosaur
I’ve got some old cookie cutters from a birthday cookie plan gone awry several years back. I’ll be using those to make Dinosaur PB&J. Then I found these adorable Dinosaur Fossil Cookies. How. Stinkin’. Cute.
4) Kung Fu Panda
My boys love all of the Kung Fu Panda movies and we can’t wait to see the third. To celebrate, I’ll be making some classic ramen (a.k.a. Mr. Ping’s Noodles) and serve them with cream puffs Po’s Cream Dumplings. 🙂
5) Rio
Isn’t it fun when fancy food takes on a new mystique when you say it in another language? To celebrate all things Brazil while watching the movie Rio, serve the kids Misto Quente (Grilled Cheese with Ham) along with Dulce de Leche Popcorn!
What movies will you be adding to your VUDU queue with your Walmart Family Mobile PLUS? Not using Walmart Family Mobile yet? For the first time ever the starter kit will be on rollback for $19.88. Since Family Mobile bills you later, you only have to pay $19.88 when you sign up!
What fun themed snacks you thought of for the movies! Such a great way to start the summer. 🙂
