October 5, 2010 Mom Time

It’s Time for You Time!

I’m no longer one who pampers myself often. Pre-child, I would get my regular mani-pedi’s, monthly brow waxes, bi-monthly trim and highlights, and I would update my wardrobe seasonally. Now…. not so much. I get my nails done never, I get my hair done when someone comments on my roots, and I update my wardrobe when I no longer fit in my clothes (something that is rapidly becoming a reality with my ever expanding waistline. Man, second pregnancy belly comes on fast!)

So, when presented with an offer to get my hair done for a review on the blog I eagerly jumped at the opportunity. Yes, it has been since April since a stylist has laid hands on me. Yes, I promised myself I would make an appointment in July. No, it didn’t happen. Family obligations got in the way, and it became October before I knew it. So this past Saturday, I got to make time for me.

It wasn’t easy. My husband has been traveling and had things he wanted to do that day. My toddler wanted to play trains at the bookstore. But I had a free cut and color coming my way, so I brushed their needs aside for once. And it felt good.

My appointment was with Emily at Carmen! Carmen! at the South Park Mall location. First let me say, as a mom, to book a hair appointment at a mall-based salon is BRILLIANT. My appointment started at 4:45. I may have told my husband it started earlier… who could pass up window shopping sans child? Plus, I got the chance to grab a Dilworth Coffee non-fat, sugar-free Chai. Yum.

When I go to a salon, I usually just let the stylist do with me what they want. I’m not usually disappointed, and this time was not an exception. Emily did a wonder with my worn-out hair, and I made the best of my two hours for me. Pre-child, I used to get stressed during my hair cut and color. I had somewhere else to be, work to do, and martinis to drink. But as a pregnant momma – not so much. “Take your time,” I sincerely offered. I relaxed as she worked the color in my hair, read a book and sipped my coffee as the color set, and then closed my eyes (and maybe dozed off a bit) for the cut and style. I woke up to a fresh looking me. Amazing what a little color and a cat-nap can do!

Now, it’s your turn. Yep, time for you to take some time for you. I know it can be hard to do. I also know it’s worth it. And, if you’re in the South Charlotte Playgroup, you’ve got an amazing discount coming your way. Simply donate to our picnic raffle, and you’ll get 50% off coupons for hair services from Emily or Taylor, and 50% off manicure services from Damion. Um yeah, we’re here to hook you up! So no excuses ladies! Oh, and if you aren’t in our playgroup, but are in Charlotte, just shoot me an email and I’ll let you know how you can get your hands on a coupon too. Yes, I am that nice!
