Destination: Beach

I’ve been doing my fair share of day-dreaming today.  I still can’t shake the beach out of my memory.  Perhaps, the sand scattered ’round my house from all of our laundry is partially to blame.  And rather than talk about back-to-school (already??) or discuss fall style (sorry, can’t do it yet), I’d thought we could chat about favorite beach destinations.  I’ll share a few of mine, you do the same!

Small Family Vacation:

Emerald Isle, NC
– No big hotels on the beach keep the shore relatively quiet and open.  Small duplexes and cottages on the beach front are affordable.  Morehead City, Beaufort, and Atlantic Beach are all nearby.

Big Family or Large Group Reunion:

Duck, NC
– It’s a heck of a drive, but it’s a great family vacation!  The small town is picturesque with plenty of shopping, dining, and family activities.  The island is thin, so whether on the sound side or beach side, the ocean isn’t ever far away!

Couple’s Getaway:

Hilton Head, SC
– It’s close, so a weekend excursion is totally doable.  Plenty of hotels to choose from.  Don’t miss The Salty Dog!  Grab a burger and beer and listen to the beach music at the marina.  Good times.

Escape Without the Kids for a Week:

St. John, USVI
– Okay, wishful thinking, I know.  But this island vacation is pretty amazing.  It’s a short, direct flight from Charlotte to St. Thomas, then a scenic ferry ride away.  Pick a resort, rental home, or go camping (who are we kidding.  Me, camp??).  Visit the national parks, go snorkeling, enjoy private beaches, then grab a frosty beverage in town.  Don’t miss Skinny Legs.  Best burgers on the island if you ask me!

Once in a Lifetime:

Cinque Terre, Italian Riviera
– Not sure when if ever, the husband and I will make it back, but this scenic spot was the wonderful place to honeymoon.  To save funds, stay in Rapallo, take the train to the last village on the Cinque Terre then hike back.  Beautiful spots to dine and dip in the Mediterranean along the way.

So what’d I miss?
