#Organizedin2013: Creating a Pretty Bedroom

Master bathroom? Check. Master closet? Complete. Dresser? Organized. Bed linens? Replaced.  We’re getting down to the nitty gritty in Week 11, by wrapping up our #Organizedin2013 project for the bedroom.  Which means, it’s time to take a hard look at the aesthetics of the room.  Do you like where the furniture is placed?  Does the decor match the mood that you would select for your personal space?  Let’s start creating a pretty bedroom!

What really bothers you about your bedroom? When I answered these questions for myself, I decided: I need new curtains (mine were way to short), my book case that you see when you walk in the room is way disorganized, and I had visual clutter that could easily be managed.

First, I tackled the curtains.  We have high ceilings in our house, and when we first moved in, I purchased the standard 84″ panels.  Well, they always bothered me.  I had to hang the curtain rod really low, and they still looked like short pants waiting for a flood.

Problem solved.  I took in my pillow sham to West Elm and matched up the color of the bedding to a light-white 96″ curtain panel.  Phew.  What a difference adding some height to the window can make.  Truly makes the whole bedroom feel more spacious!

I also realized: the bookcase in our room that never bothered me before wasn’t “pretty” to look at.  My husband and I had crammed a bunch of random books on there that we never planned to read again, but that for some reason we couldn’t let go of.  Most of them were from high school: Dusty copies of Jane Eyre, Tale of Two Cities, and yes… the entire Shakespeare collection.  Off to Goodwill…

Then I simply rearranged some items from around the house and made sure that the display area reflected how I wanted to the bedroom to look. Better, huh?

Finally, I did one last go-around.  I cleaned out nightstands and got organizers for each drawer.  I went through my jewelry box and cleaned out mis-matched earrings and sorted through the sterling silver that needed a good polishing.  Old collections of “must-read” books got re-categorized into “donate” and “really must read” piles.  And now, now I can say, I am lovin’ my bedroom. One day, I’ll replace that 20 year old 13″ television that I got for my 10th birthday.  But, it still works and it makes me smile.  So, that’ll be another year. 🙂

They publicize specific specials for weeks just before the party. Consider not to match wooden or hues except it goes alongside with your theme. When that initially shopper comes by means of people doors, you can expect to be ready.
