#Organizedin2013: Linen Closet Makeover

organizedin2013

Anyone else finding it slightly ironic that I cannot seem to be organized enough to post my #Organizedin2013 posts on time?  Yeah, I think organizing my work schedule is going to be next on the list.  Until then, let’s take on Project #4 for the year: the Linen Closet Makeover.

In my house, our linen closet it nestled in the hallway next to the boys’ bedrooms, the boys’ and guest bathroom, and the kitchen.  So the small space becomes a major catch-all: tableclothes, bath and beach towels, lesser used kitchen appliances, bibs, and an insane amount of dog hair.  I’m a little stumped by the amount of dog hair I found at the bottom of the closet.  Did someone shave the dog in there without me noticing?

Needless to say, the space needed some cleaning out.  See?

Ugh.  Just a mess.  Who needs that many rags?  If I ever need to use that many rags, wouldn’t I probably just opt for a towel? And, now that I’m doing a load of laundry every day, why do I need 5-6 “rag” towels?  If there’s ever a spill that big in the house, we’ll just move! 🙂

Then, the beach towels.  I had already thrown them on the floor before I remembered to take the picture for this post (yeah, I’m terrible about photos), and realized… I still had a beach towel that I got for my 13th birthday.  Yeah, it’s seen better days.  And once again, who needs that many?

Another thing I had too many of?  Vases. Seriously, why do we feel like we need to keep every cheap-o vase that comes our way.  Sadly, there aren’t many days when the hubs walks in with a fresh bouquet just “because.”  And if he were too, it’s unlikely I’d need 20 vases to display them.  Just sayin’.

Needless to say, there was a major purge.  I tossed a lot of the rags, old beach towels, and vases.  I chucked some placemats I never liked, and got rid of mis-matched sets.

Best of all? This project was totally FREE!  No organizing supplies needed (unless you need an over-the-door hook).  Seriously, just purge.  I’m finding getting rid of things is getting a heck-of-a-lot easier.  And, I’m now pals with the Goodwill lady.

So, what do you think you’re going to find at the back of your linen closet?
