#100MileMom Challenge: MileMarker Update

100milemom

Dear Moms,

This is a tough post for me to write.  For the last four days, I’ve woken up and thought, “Self.  Today is the day I tell my readers.”  And, then I think, no.  It can wait.  I’ll change my mind.  And then another day slips by.

But, here goes:  I cannot complete the 100 Mile Mom Challenge.

I’ve done the 100 Mile Challenge five times.  I’ve never started it and not completed one.  For me, a 100 Mile Challenge means I commit to running 100 Miles.  That means 3.1 miles every day for the month.  Unfortunately, on Sunday I woke up with a cold that I have not been able to kick.  That coupled with a few days where I couldn’t run last week (double jogger + rain storm = bad mom), means I’m now officially one week behind.

I just can’t force my body to complete the challenge in three weeks.  I am not that much woman.  I am not that much  mom.  I am not that much a glutton for punishment.

As I said, FOR ME the 100 Mile Challenge is a running challenge.  Why?  Because that’s what challenges me.  When I kick started this “official” 100 Mile Mom Challenge, however, I opened it up to moving.  Moms moving.  And so with that in mind, I’m still with you.  I’m going to walk, run, elliptical and maybe even bike my way across that finish line, but I can’t claim to be an official participant.  For me, not running the mileage is cheating, and I can’t cheat in my own game.

Even as I write this, I’m thinking – Don’t do it.  Commit to running your arse off so that you don’t let these girls down.  But, I know I can’t.  At least not with my sanity in tact.  Or my body for that matter.

grandma cheerleader

Instead, I’m going to be your cheerleader.  Not in the pom-pom, short-skirt kinda way.  Nope.  I was in the marching band.  I can play the flute for you if you like.  Or instead, I’ll send out virtual pats on the back and encourage you with incentives along the way.  Sound good?

So, for every mom in the challenge… Let us know how far you’ve moved in the #100MileMom Challenge!  We’ll pick a random winner from the list on Saturday afternoon to win a $25 Earth Fare Gift Card.  So you can stock up on protein bars and the like, of course.   Definitely not for a bottle of wine.  Nope, definitely not wine. 😉

A little over a week ago, on the 2nd, I was in my pajamas and getting ready for bed while scrolling through facebook on my phone. I saw your post about the challenge and thought to myself, “That. I am going to do that.” I told my husband about it and he tried hard to hide his skepticism. (I am kind of known for setting unrealistic goals for myself and almost always giving up on them.) But right then and there, at 10 o’clock at night, I put on some shorts and went to our local track and knocked out 2 miles. And that’s where I started. I’ve got 25 miles down. If you had told me last month that I would have walked 25 miles of the course of 9 days, I wouldn’t have believed it. I am really proud of myself and really hope that I can hit that 100 mile goal. If nothing else, this has been an awesome way to jump start exercising more often. And I love it!

I know there is no way I could run 100 miles in one month, but I have started my couch to 5k program training to get ready for the Color run in October! More power to all the ladies who can run 100 miles in a month! You go ladies!

Being too hard on yourself! If it makes you feel any better, I wont finish the challenge either. I’ve been fighting tendonitis for two weeks and am now doped up on drugs. Almost thought about getting a cortizone shot but someone wise talked me out of it. It would have a temporary fix and then August would have hell again. So, just take care of yourself so you can be 100% when you start up again.

AHEM. (i’m just kidding. You know I love you.)

    53.45 miles to go.

I just don’t know what to say beyond that. Because I have to go wash my hair. Every day now, thanks to you ;o)

I know you would do it if it were at all possible. I’m sure you debated for several days just running 5 miles a day until you caught back up.

I am up to 28.5 miles running from last week and this week and I still have 11 miles left to go this week. Not sure if I am going to make it either as I am only getting about 20 miles a week but I am going to try.

I’m not a runner but I’ve been walking a pretty quick mile. I’m up to 33.5 miles.

I started my 100 miles challenge late, on July 5th yeah right after the holiday weekend. With the bad weather and my husband traveling more I been doing my miles with the kids. That means go around our neighborhood playground or parking lot many times to make the daily miles goal while the kids play and I can watch them.
So far, I been in the challenge for 6 days and I completed 23.95 miles. I am going to do the best I can to reach the goal.
Will be nice to have you as cheerleader Katie! and thanks for encourage us to exercise more.

I believe I’m way too behind to actually complete 100 miles over the month, but I’ll continue to log them.

    Running – 3.0 miles
    Walking – 11.5 miles

    Week Total: 14.5 miles

Since July 1st I have biked 75 miles each week and run/walked 12 miles each week. I am “moving” everyday but my knees can’t handle running all 100 miles. I thought about trying to ride 100 miles each week but time did not allow! I am feeling pretty good about my start!

    So my totals are:
    Biked: 152.6 miles
    Run: 24 miles
