Moving Day – A Review of Principle Moving and Unpakt.com

** “This New House” Series on MomFavorites.com is sponsored by Unpakt.  Search our story on Twitter/Facebook with the #thisnewhouse hashtag!**

moving moray

If you read my blog (ever) you realize I pride myself on a few things: cooking, organization, and my ability to sleep in even though the kids are tearing the house apart.  So, you can understand my dismay when I totally failed at packing up my house.  It almost makes me want to do it again just to practice.  Almost.  In all honesty, I ain’t movin’…. ever again.

movingday

I really did suck at packing up my house, but there is one thing I did do that I was glad for:  When the movers showed up on moving day, everything was in a box and/or ready to go.  Can I get a hellz yeah?  Or a pat on the back? Either are fine with me.

moving day

I never pass up an opportunity to be in the arms of strong men! 😉

As I mentioned before, I selected to book my move through Unpakt.com.  They paired me with Principle Moving, a local moving company in Charlotte, to facilitate my move.  I swear, a higher power was at work when I was paired with Principle Moving.  Because although I had all of my stuff packed and ready to go, there were still problems looming in the background and they saved the day.  And my sanity. And money.

I booked the movers to pick up my stuff the day prior to closing and deliver to my new house the following day, after both old house and new house were closed on.  This was also going to give me time to bring in cleaners to tidy up the hold house.  An absolute must when moving.  Don’t leave a mess for new home owners.  How sad would that be?

The movers were to arrive at 1pm.  At 12:45, I got a call from the company.  Just to let me know they’d be there right on time.  One point for Principle Moving!  Upon arrival, the team dispersed into my home.  I signed paperwork, including moving insurance that they swore would not need to be utilized, and then I set to work making sure everything I needed had been packed.

Places to double check include: the dishwasher (almost left my munchkin basket), outside/garden (almost left my decorative herb markers), the attic, behind closet doors, and under the crawl space.

The Principle Moving crew made quick work of my three bedroom house.  In just a few hours almost everything was loaded on the truck with no casualties.  Only thing left?  The playroom.

Remember that Greenover back in 2011?  When Carter Oosterhouse came and decorated my nursery and playroom?  We were the beneficiaries of many goodies during the Greenover, one of them being a Crate and Barrel Queen Sleeper-Sofa.  I remember on the day of the “big reveal” that they had to push it back by over half a day and the crew was mumbling something about a “damn couch.”

The significance of that moment was lost on me until…. Until we tried to get the “damn couch” out of the house.

That couch was NOT going to come out of the house.  Now, I know many of you are reading this and thinking, “If they could get it in than they can get it out.”  Yes, we ALL thought that.  The four men from the moving company, my husband, the owner of the moving company, my dad.  Over the next TWO days, we spent a total of 9 hours trying to get that couch out of the house.

Long story shorter, Principle Moving hooked me up with a furniture carpenter and we ended up breaking and then repairing/reupholstering the couch.  Of all things I never thought I’d ever have to worry about….

And then a little extra stress.  Our mortgage paperwork was being held back.  So now, all of my stuff is on a moving truck, and we can’t get our paperwork processed for closing.  I was in constant contact with Principle Moving over the course of those 48 hours.  Tim, the owner, was beyond gracious and made sure that I knew they would not only accommodate our move as necessary, but that he would try to keep my storage expenses to a minimum.  God bless.

My new friend carried me over the threshold.  🙂

Two long days later, we were new home owners.  Principle Moving, with a packed schedule (pun intended), was able to squeeze us in at 7pm.  The six man crew stayed late into the night hauling our worldly belongings in, while my husband and I attempted to stay out of their way.  We may have also had a celebratory beer.  Or three.  And you know what?  That couch looks great in the new house.

A huge shoutout to Principle Moving, the best movers I’ve ever had a chance to work with!

I cannot say enough nice things about Principle Moving and my experience with Unpakt.com.  Moving is stressful and if you plan to move anytime soon, you’ll want a team in place that you can trust to make things go as smoothly as possible.

If you’d like to work with Principle Moving or any of the movers on Unpakt.com, be sure to use the link to book your move for 5% off!

If I had to move next month I would make a list of supplies needed and then start checking off one room a day at a time!
