Strong Momma: On Reaching My Fitness Goals

Reach your fitness goals with a combined effort of strength and personal training and the right diet.  EAS products make the low carb life easy!

Bringing babies into the world sure takes a lot out of a lady, doesn’t it?  (Understatement of the century!)  I’m not sure if it’s having three (THREE!) kids, having surgery right afterwards, or my inability to say no when my husband asks if I want a glass of wine at night, but for some reason… my body isn’t going back to the way it was.

Some say it never will, and I should just deal. While that may be true, I’ve been on a mission to have the body I want.  I wan to be strong. I want to feel good in my jeans.  I want to do a pull-up before I turn 4o.  Just one.  I will do it.

Y’all know I run.  It’s my time for me.  And for those of you that are thinking that you aren’t runners, don’t be a Debbie Downer to yourself.  I didn’t always run either.  There are plenty of couch to 5k programs that you can try out, and if that’s not your thing, just lace up your sneaks and start.  Walk, and run (even if just for 30 seconds).  Walk and run.  It all has to start somewhere!

Unfortunately, running isn’t getting me anywhere closer to that pull-up goals.  So, I’ve also been seeing a personal trainer twice a week.  I’m not a gym gal. Those people, those machines… intimidating!  Plus, I need accountability.

A typical session involves a warm-up:

A little bit of strength/cardio, like my favorite ball slam workout:

And usually something that makes me feel like if I mess up I might end up in an ER.

Thankfully, this guy has keeps me on the straight and narrow.  His photography skills aren’t bad either. 😉

I’m six months into training and running post-baby #3, and although I’m not where I thought I’d be at this point, I’m not giving up.  I’ve been making my fitness goals, but my diet has been killing me.  I hate telling Paul (Mr. Personal Trainer) what I’ve been eating.  And, he’s never shy about telling me – it’s about what you’re eating that’s gonna get you the stomach you want.  Yeah… yeah.

So I’m working on my “diet.”  I use diet in quotations because I’m not one to make rules for myself.  I’m not gonna go paleo or on Weight Watchers.  But, I am going to try and get as much protein as possible, and cut out simple carbohydrates where it makes sense.

Recently, I picked up EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control ready-to-drink beverage while on a shopping trip at Walmart.  While they have several flavors, I opted for strawberry.  I’m a fan of the Strawberry and Cream Frappucino at Starbucks, and this has a similar taste.

Loaded with vitamins, and a whopping 17 grams of protein, I’ve been using this as a convenient pre or post workout “treat.”

Are you on a path to a fitter self?  How are you planning on getting there?

I’m on a path to a healthier me, but I had to give up working out for a few months in order to get there. I know it sound so backwards, but I have a metabolic disorder that was preventing me from losing weight, despite the fact that I was working out 2 hours/day, 4 days/week. So I’m laying low now, eating low carb, high fat; and in a couple more months I’ll be able to start lifting again. Unfortunately for this ex-competitive dancer, I’ll never be able to do lots of cardio like I want to (darn metabolic disorder), but I will be able to lift weights, which is something I really miss. You’re looking great and I love your sunny outlook on the lifestyle change. #client
