Afternoon Slump: 4 Tips to Win the Day!

“I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Gevalia Iced Coffee with Almond Milk. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

Do you have an afternoon slump? For me, it’s always between 2 and 3 pm. I just lose my drive. No matter the weather, no matter my plans, I wanna throw in the towel and take a nap. But we all know that’s a pipe dream. Work and three kids don’t let tired mommas rest. Boo.

So, we push through. We’re tough. It’s getting easier, though, with a few preemptive strikes.

Here are my strategies for showing the Afternoon Slump who’s boss.

1. Caffeine

As soon as I start to feel the afternoon slump attack, I enjoy a coffee drink. Lately, I’ve been grabbing for Gevalia Iced Coffee with Almond Milk. It’s a great way to treat myself. Plus, I don’t like to load up on dairy before my runs, so it’s the perfect option for my late run days. I keep the single serive cartons in my fridge for an easy grab & go pick-me-up.  Hello convenience!

The Caramel flavor is my fave, but they also come in Mocha and Vanilla flavors.

2. Sleep

It all starts with sleep. Duration and quality. I’ve been battling with sleep issues for most of my life. But within the last few months, I’ve discovered a new trick that has DRASTICALLY improved my ability to not only to fall asleep, but stay asleep. The sleep mask. Holy heck, where has this been all my life? Jon and I are both sleep mask users now, and we ain’t going back. I’ve also recently reduced the number of pillows I’ve been using. Sounds silly, but that little change has helped.

3. Daily Exercise

This is critical folks. Instead of wearing me out, I always feel so much better after a run. I prefer to run late-morning, in between client appointments. But even if I don’t get to it until later in the day, just knowing that I have that time for myself ahead of me helps me push through the afternoons. Plus, it helps with #1.

4. Protein

So, my afternoon Gevalia Iced Coffee with Almond Milk has 9 grams of protein per single serve carton, which I truly appreciate. I mean, how much protein does a regular coffee drink have? Nada. But, I also have been making sure I load up on protein at lunch. This has been a tough change for me, as up until recently we ate a primarily veggie diet, but I’ve noticed I have so much energy if I make sure to have protein mid-day. Here’s one of my new go-to meals that I posted about recently, if you missed it.
