Ready or not, here it comes. Halloween. Every child’s 2nd favorite holiday, my least favorite. Call me the Halloween Scrooge, but I’m not a fan of skulls and tombstones, coffins and spider webs. Boo Humbug.

Despite my lack of enthusiasm for October 31st, I try not to share my attitude with the kids. It’s fun for them, and who am I to rob them of their childhood joys? So this week I jumped on the bandwagon. Head first into this most frightful of holidays, adding my own version of Halloween cheer to our average family activities.

My first step was to hit up CVS where I knew I could find all of the supplies I needed for a simple ghoulish treat for the kids: Spooky Ice Cubes with Fanta Orange Soda. Unlike the other retailers I’ve shopped recently CVS actually still has Halloween supplies left. I mean c’mon, folks. Who needs Christmas ornaments on October 26th?  Silliness.

Anyway, I stray.  Back to bringing joy to the little people in my house.  My concept:  Fun drinks for movie night.

My boys enjoy a soda on movie night, and I thought a spooky movie night with Hotel Transylvania and Fanta Orange Soda would be perfect.  The assembly was easy – my favorite kind of craftiness.

Using ice cube trays of various sizes, I added my CVS finds: Sour Gummy Worms and Spooky Rings and filled them with water.

Freeze overnight, and they’re ready to go.  Using silicone molds makes it super easy to pop the ice cubes out.

Add to mason jars, pour Fanta Orange Soda over the cubes, and add festivity with paper straws.

Voila.

I love how the gummy worm ice cubes turned out, but my kids thought having the ice melt from the rings was the coolest thing ever.   And seeing my kids happy over something so small, was pretty awesome.  Guess I can get in the Halloween spirit after all.

Need to bring a little ghoulish fun to your Halloween weekend?  Be sure to hit up CVS and pick up Fanta and other last minute Halloween supplies!
