Ready or not, there they go! Back to school time. I know some moms are doing the happy dance and some of us feel like walking zombies. I’m a little bit of both – maybe a dancing zombie?
Getting back into a new routine can be rough, and so can parting with children for so long after spending a family-fun packed summer. Which is why I have been sharing quite a few tips, tricks and recipes these last few weeks. Every little bit helps.
To purchase the produce featured in the image above, find a Walmart near you!
Today, we’re chatting up after-school activity snack bags. With three boys, you can bet our weekdays are jam packed with sports and extracurriculars. They get on the bus at 6:45 am, and sometimes they don’t get home until 4:15. For an little guy that can be a looooong day. For anyone that’s a long day.
To make sure they can power through from their regular school day to after-school activities, I like to make sure that they have have fuel. They need a snack that is well-rounded, satisfying, and packed with love.
We make our after-school snack bags together as a family, and I let the kids pick the snack menu for each week. I make sure that they include fresh produce and that they make smart snacking choices – the rest is up to them.
And they always include bulk carton Goldfish® crackers in their after-school snack bags. Who am I to complain? Especially with the rollback pricing of $5.98!
After-school Snack Bags
The snack bags start out with some creative flair. They can choose to decorate their own, but usually they like to make the snack bags for each other. Sometimes little brother helps, and sometimes I jump in with a stick figure or two.
Next, it’s assembly line time. Everything that goes into the bags gets lined up on the counter: water bottles, Goldfish® crackers, cheese cubes, and fruit.
One kid gets to measure out the Goldfish® crackers (generally Graham as he has a higher cracker-to-bag ratio) and the other gets to skewer. We like to put cheese cubes and smaller fruit (like grapes or blueberries) on large toothpicks. Not only is it more fun to make something on a stick, it’s also more likely to get eaten!
All bags go into the fridge, then when it’s time to hit the road, it’s grab and go time!
Be sure to drop in Walmart for great prices on all of your back-to school needs! What are your kiddo’s favorite after-school bag snacks? Get more back to school inspiration with Goldfish® crackers here.
