Never miss an important event again with this easy to make DIY Dry Erase Board Weekly Family Activity Planner! It’s the perfect organizational solution, especially for large families!
The back-to-school season can be brutal. Absolutely brutal. Especially for larger families like mine. Different school start and end times, various activities for multiple children in the afternoon, plus the added bonus of homework. Where’s the rock for me to hide under??
Seriously, if I knew Excel better, I’d have one heckuva spreadsheet with formulas and everything. But Excel’s never been my thing. So when it comes to organizing the comings and goings of my family members, I’ve gone old-school. Yep, we’re writing it out.
I created this Weekly Family Activity Planner with a plain ol’ dry erase board and washi tape. It’s easy to keep clean with Windex® Vinegar Multi-Surface Cleaner and a dry rag.
Windex® Vinegar Multi-Surface Cleaner is versatile enough to use through your home, and the special ammonia-free formula has no harsh vinegar smell. Just a fresh, clean scent. It’s the perfect product to keep our weekly planner shining, and we use it as a bathroom cleaner, and stainless steel cleaner too.
At the beginning of the week, I transfer the details of my personal calendar along with the event for each child into the corresponding day and slot. With the board propped up in my kitchen, everyone knows the events of each day and nothing will be forgotten.
With the conclusion of the week, I get to wipe the slate clean. And for this gal, who loves crossing an item off of a to-do list, wiping the board clean feels is pure joy.
DIY Dry Erase Board Family Activity Planner
First, clean the dry erase board with Windex® Vinegar Multi-Surface Cleaner and dry completely. Using a ruler and dry erase marker, mark off a grid for and include rows for each family member and a column for each day of the week.
Using the markings as your guide, use washi tape to make a calendar grid. Use stickers (or simply write out initial) for each person in right hand column. I used an “&” for my husband and me and each child got their own space. On the top column label each day of the week.
Now it’s time to add in your schedule. Atop each day of the week, I included the day of the week, then filled in each person’s activities. Phew… it’s gonna be a busy week! But, an exciting one! James has his first day of preschool. Fingers crossed we get an awesome first-day-of-school pic!

This is a great idea Katie. My husband and I use a dry erase board quite a bit when organizing and planning moving help for clients. Your post gives me a few good ideas.
