I was blog-hopping sometime in June and came across something that I instantly knew I had to do. The blogger (whom I sadly can’t recall, that’s how excited I must have been) had just received a package from her foodie pen pal. Inside the box were all kinds of awesome local goodies from across the country. I was instantly jealous and then continued to read on and learn that, yes:
I too could have a foodie pen pal.
Here’s how it works:
Visit The Lean Green Bean blog to fill out an entry form. By the fifth of the month you are paired with another blogger or if you don’t blog, you are paired with a non-blogger. Each participant is responsible for mailing a goodie package of fun foodie foods, local goodies, or homemade treats as well as a note. You are given a limit of $15 and then also must cover the shipping costs. Bloggers then post about the box they received, non-bloggers just enjoy!
Pretty cool, huh? So wanna see what I got? Drum roll please….
As you can see… I got quite a selection of things: a kit for making your own doughnuts, a french onion soup mix, teas, jams, honey, and a mixed bean and barley blend. I’m pretty stoked about all of these things. Oh, and what you don’t see? A Thin Mint Crunch Bar. Sorry, that didn’t last long enough to get photoed. A girl has needs, ya know? So let’s give a huge shout-out to my new foodie pal, Sarah, from Both Sides Now. You rock.
Oh, and to give you an idea, here’s what I shipped to my pen pal:
My pen pal happened to be vegan, so I sent her some NC-made pasta, a locally made pizza kit, soy soaps and some seeds. I’m looking forward to participating again! It’s so much fun to open a box full of surprises and knowing you’ve done the same for someone else!
I also want to give a HUGE thanks to Lindsay of http://www.theleangreenbean.com/ and the mastermind behind this whole production. I cannot imagine the organization that must take place to put together this exchange!
So, now, I gotta ask… anyone else gonna do it?
What a cool idea! Love the concept of food pen pals, and for grown-ups nonetheless!
I just may head over and sign up.
What a great way to be introduced to new foods, brands and make a new friend!
