The Summer Makeup Bag

A post from Lily Winnail, our CMF Style Coach:
Hi CMF friends!  I am in Canada as I type, visiting my parents and siblings.  We come up here from Charlotte every Summer and Winter for an extended vacation.  This is a grand time for all the little cousins to play together.  For my sister and me, it’s all about the food, the shopping, and any new beauty tips we’ve discovered during the 6 months we’ve been apart.
This morning I got into my sister’s make up bag (as I often do) to see what new things she has lined up for a fresh Summer face.  She always finds the best stuff!  I like that she has a good mixture of Sephora/higher end mixed in with the drugstore basics.  I’m so excited to share everything I tried and also share with you some of my own secrets.  All together it gave us a lovely Summer glow that was youthful and healthy looking.  I walked out of the house today looking 10 years younger than my almost 40 self… ok well at least I FELT that way.

This first line up is the first step for dewy, healthy skin and surprisingly it won’t break the bank.  It’s CeraVe spf 30 daily moisturizer –with hyaluronic acid which is supposed to keep skin extra moist by retaining water in skin cells (that one is my secret – so don’t everyone run out and buy it because it’s hard enough for me to find it in stock!).

After this, we apply our Jergen’s Daily Glow SPF 20 sunless tanner for face.  We put a thin layer of this on after our moisturizer every day, since we both never tan our faces.  My most used daily staple is Sonia Kashuk’s tinted moisturizer.  It gives me a healthy glow and isn’t heavy like foundation.  I’ll always put a little concealer on first, if needed.

My sister found a foundation that feels like a moisturizer, but gives a little more coverage and makes your skin look amazing.  It’s Biotherm Aquaradiance. (I tried both the tinted moisturizer and the Biotherm together, but really you only need one or the other). We finish off with a bronzer.  I like the one by Bare Minerals.  Oh, and the last product on the end is from Sephora – it’s a great body glow lotion by Cake that gives your skin a beautiful sheen.  Use it on your arms and décolleté.

Next we did my eyes with a Covergirl black liner  that came with a smudger on the other end.  I love it because it doesn’t need sharpened, and the smudger makes your eyes look smokey and soft.  The white liner (e.l.f. $1.00)gave me just a little shimmer at the inside corners of my eyes.
We used various colors in her Physicians Formula Summer palette, found at the drugstore.  The light pinks and warm browns are perfect for Summer.  My sis loves this Covergirl mascara – I tried it, and for the price, you can’t beat it.  Dark, long lashes and no clumps.  Her portable Wet n Wild eyelash curler was a hit too.
The last thing for the eyes that I absolutely loved of hers was her brow illuminizer made with argan oil.   She found it at Sephora by Josie Maran. It stayed on all day, and gave me an instant lift!
******************************************************
Lastly was lips – we wanted something that would stay all day but still look light and summery.  She had a berry Covergirl Lipstain that was a perfect base, and we topped it with this Tarina Tarantino shimmer gloss that was not sticky but had a great shine. (PS It doesn’t show the glitter on your lips either!)
******************************************************
Ok so here are the results!  I know it doesn’t look like I have much on for all the work and steps above!  You DO NOT want to see what the before looked like, believe me!  Anyway, my face stayed moist and “on” all day (well, until I jumped into the lake) and I really thought the products worked great together.
What’s your favorite Summer make-up product or tip?

I’d love to know what she suggests for covering up freckles? Or does she embrace them as part of the “Summer Look”?

I read a quote on Pinterest “A girl without freckles is like a night without stars” – so I say embrace those freckles! The tinted moisturizer will give you a nice glow and not too much coverage. So your skin will look even, but your freckles will shine through like the stars! 🙂
