The Day I Stepped Back on The Scale… Week 1 of Losing 10 Pounds

scale

Somebody, and by somebody I mean me, has gained 10 pounds since spring, and she’s none to pleased about it.  I have this love hate relationship with the scale.  I either get on it everyday or avoid it like the plague.  Well, for the last few months I’ve been avoiding it, but when my pants started feeling tight… I got back on and was DISMAYED.  For a few days, I thought I could just run an extra mile every now and then or pour a half glass of wine and it would go back down.  But we all know better.  You don’t lose weight without working for it.

I’ve lost weight (and by losing weight I mean 10 pounds or more) twice in my life.  Both times I turned into a workout maniac and dieting fiend.  Both times it worked.  Now, I’m speaking for me here, but for me – losing weight is not a lifestyle that needs to be maintained.  It’s something you do to get the weight off, then you find a way to balance it.  Sure, every once in awhile you have to go back into Losing Weight mode, but if you ask me, it’s no way to live.

I will, however, be in this mode until I drop ten pounds.  That’s a commitment folks.  And commitments need accountability.  Enter you.

Every week I’ll be reporting to you my Daily Fitness and Food Journal until I’ve met my goal. It’s a little printable I made and it’s helping me stay on track.  Every morning I weigh myself.  I write down everything I eat during the day.  Yes.  Everything.  If I don’t want to write it down, I don’t eat it.  And, of course, I write down my exercise for the day.  Many days that’s two workouts, some days I work out once, and I get one day off per week for rest.

Perhaps I’ll motivate a few of you to join me?  I’d sure love some company.  Let me know if you would like to drop the pounds with me and we’ll start a Facebook group to keep each other motivated.  And maybe when we all reach our goals we can celebrate with a bottle o’ wine.  Then run a few miles. 🙂

Starting Weight (Ugh.): 126.2
End of Week 1: 125.6 (Monday’s weigh in which you won’t see until next week)
Total Loss – .6 pounds
The Good: I consider it a plus that I’m down anything this week after two nights of going out for the hubs birthday and one night of take-out Chinese.  I found a few sculpting videos that I ike and will incorporate them into my regular cardio.  Getting back into my running routine, and don’t feel like I’m gonna die after 3.5 miles.
The Bad: I was hoping to lose a little more this week.  I mean, I passed on a LOT of drinks this week.  But, Aunt Flo came to town, so I’m going to blame that for the most part.  It’s also killer having leftover Halloween candy in the house.  Tempted to let the kids just go to town on it so I’m less tempted!

I’m with you! I started yesterday bc I’m sick of thinking about my weight and beating myself up about it. I have more than 10 lbs to lose. I broke out an old school Tae Bo workout yesterday and it kicked my booty!

I’m with ya! I did Dietbet last month and lost 6 pounds, finally at pre pregnancy weight but still need to lose 10-15 pounds 🙁
I did learn I don’t want to “diet” the rest of my life, just get myself where I want to be and then pay attention to how much I am eating and excercising.

Sounds like a competition to me, I’m in! Since I just finished my last physical therapy session an hour ago this seems like the perfect time to kick it into higher gear.

So glad you posted this – I am right there with you! Also, you are my favorite person ever because you have a separate “booze” line item on your food diary. Solidarity, sister.

If dieting requires not drinking, I’d rather just get bigger pants!

Would love to be down a few before New Years resolutions! Still taking it easy over here with plantar fasciitis, but would be up for some old school mall or greenway walks after Thanksgiving!

I’m in! Last week I started working out every morning (with one day of rest) and walking on my office lunch break most days. Oh, and trying to avoid sugar. That’s the big killer for me! I haven’t done perfect, but I’ve sure passed on a lot of sugar goodness and I’m hoping to see results for motivation sooner than later . 🙂
