One Pot Pasta with Sausage & Basil is a budget-friendly dinner your whole family will love! It’s easy to cook, and clean-up will be a breeze… especially after those plates are licked clean!
Search Pinterest for Sheet Pan Dinners or One Pot Pastas and you’ll see hundreds of takes on this food trend. I’ve found that sheet pan dinners are one of the easiest ways to get dinner on the table – a rainbow of veggies and meat cooked to perfection with just the right amount of char.
But when it comes to the one-pot pasta, I’ve been hesitant. Sure, easy is great… but not at the sacrifice of flavor. I had visions of mushy pasta with goopy tomato sauce. And then, I gave it a go. I’ve played around with different sauces, pasta shapes and flavor profiles and think I’ve found the trifecta of easy, quick and tasty.
Penny pinching? This recipe is budget friendly, too. Especially when you buy two RAGÚ® Pasta Sauce 16-24oz and get a free 16oz Barilla® Pasta at participating Family Dollar stores. one pot pasta with sausage & basil
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the minced bell pepper and shallot and cook until translucent, stirring frequently. Add the garlic and stir until fragrant.
Crumble the sausage into the skillet and continue cooking and stirring until meat is thoroughly cooked. Pour in 1/4 cup of sherry and allow to cook down until liquid is mostly evaporated.
Add the pasta sauce and two cups of water to the skillet and stir to combine. Bring to a simmer.
Add the pasta into the sauce and stir. Return to a low boil and cover, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat as necessary to prevent over-boiling. If pasta gets too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
The pasta will take longer to cook than package directions to get al dente pasta with this method. For the penne used in this recipe, it cooked for about 15 minutes before reaching the perfect bite. Once the pasta is done, remove the skillet from heat and stir in the cream, basil and parmesan.
Hope your family enjoys this pasta recipe as much as mine did! #WeeknightTradition @ragusauce @BarillaUS
