TGIF with these Hibiscus Cocktails

Celebrate the weekend with handcrafted hibiscus cocktails including a Smokey Hibiscus Margarita with mezcal and a Hibiscus Lime Vodka & Soda.

Is it just more or does time seem to come to a standstill on Friday afternoons?!?   My excitement may stem from my craving for a handcrafted cocktail utilizing a jar of hibiscus flowers in syrup.  A rare find in the pantry leftover from a pre-Covid shopping trip.  Remember shopping?!?

Back in the day when one could wander down an aisle without a hazmat suit, I loved to pick up random ingredients for future inspiration.  And goodness knows, my happy hour could use a little inspo.  Which is why I took it upon myself to whip up not 1, but 2 Hibiscus Cocktails for your drinking pleasure.  You’re welcome.

Hibiscus Cocktail #1: Smokey Hibiscus Mezcal Margarita

This Smokey Hibiscus Mezcal Margarita is everything I love about a perfectly crafted cocktail.

Smokiness comes from the mezcal (if you haven’t tried it, you really must) and the Tajin seasoning on the rim of the glass.  I just scored some on Amazon, since I’m not hitting up the international markets like I used to.

I used four tablespoons of the syrup for two cocktails.  But, I’ve learned that I like my cocktails a little less sweet than most.  So play around with it.  Start with less, and you can always add more.

Hibiscus Cocktail #2: Hibiscus Lime Vodka & Soda

I’ve been drinking more vodka sodas these days than in days past.  My palate needs a break from beer.  (Words I never thought I’d say.)  Anywho, this Hibiscus Lime Vodka & Soda brings a little more fun to the party than a plain ol’ vodka soda.

I dig the garnish for this drink.  The flowers in syrup are just too much fun not to use.  Keep in mind, if you do plop a flower or two down in the drink, use a little less syrup.  The flowers are soaked in the stuff, so adding them to your cocktail will make it sweeter.
