I received monetary compensation from General Mills in exchange of my endorsement of Box Tops For Education.
what’s my working mom’s secret to making teachers happy? school supplies and box tops, of course!
I’ve always struggled with my confidence as a mom. When my babies were super-little, I worried that I wasn’t giving them enough tummy-time or stimulation. As toddlers, I worried that I wasn’t giving them enough vegetables or one-on-one time. Now that they are older, I worry about limiting screen time. You name it, I’m worried that I’m not doing it enough, too much, or not right at all.
With school-aged children, that worry has gone into over-drive, because it’s not just me judging me. It’s a whole school of teachers and peers that evaluate my children and my involvement in their education. As a working mom, it’s hard to make a good impression. I can’t volunteer during the day, my nanny helps a lot with take-home projects, and I suck at arts and crafts.
The two things that I have going for me, and what I’ve told the teachers of my children… You need supplies, let me know. And when it comes to collecting Box Tops? I’m your gal.
I’ve bulk-purchased and shipped supplies directly to the school, which always goes over well. Wipes, tissues, storage bags, you need it, I’ll get it to you.
I’m also super-awesome at collecting Box Tops. They are each worth 10¢ for your school. Schools can earn up to $20,000 every year by clipping Box Tops from hundreds of participating products. When possible, I always get products with Box Top labels on them, and in case you were wondering… there are tons of Box Top products available at Costco.
To entertain my kids on shopping trips I challenge them to find Box Top products. They’re always motivated. When their class pulls in the most Box Tops for their grade that quarter, they get a popsicle party. Nothing like a popsicle to incentivize a 7-year-old. But it’s not just popsicles. At our school, Box Top money helped fund a courtyard renovation that our kids use for an outdoor classroom.
I keep a labeled envelope in my kitchen junk drawer, so I don’t have to hunt for Box Tops when the school asks for us to send them in.
On top of scoring all our pantry staples (as a food blogger with a family of five we need a well-stocked pantry!), be sure to grab school supplies in bulk while at Costco to make a great impression on the first day of school.
You won’t find me making a bulletin board for a teacher in the hallway, and I’m probably not gonna be crafting for the next holiday party. But, I’m working on worrying a little less. I mean, I don’t need more money #SaidNoSchoolEver.
